VfL Wolfsburg became the first Bundesliga club to change coach this season. Mark van Bommel had to take his hat after the Lower Saxony slackened just as much as a result of a strong start. In his place, Florian Kohfeldt coached the wolves for the first time on Saturday.
The away game at Bayer Leverkusen is a difficult task for VfL’s debut at Kohfeldt. For the 39-year-old Wolfsburg is the second coaching station in the Bundesliga. The Siegener had previously instructed Werder Bremen from October 2017 to May 2021. He made his debut at the Hanseatic League at the beginning of November 2017, with a 2-1 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt. Should this fate overtake him on Saturday, Kohfeldt would be right on trend: eight of the 17 other Bundesliga coaches have lost their debut for their current employers, only five started with a win.
