Medan –
North Sumatra Governor (Gubsu) Edy Rahmayadi stressed that there is no prohibition for Christians who want to perform Christmas worship in church. He was even worried about Christians who did not go to church.
Edy said this during a meeting to handle the Corona virus pandemic in North Sumatra. Edy was initially asked by church representatives about the steps that must be taken to prevent the spread of the Corona virus during the Christmas celebration.
“In one more month we will celebrate Christmas. True Christians always obey the government, because the government is God’s representative. For that in the near future, Mr. Governor, we will discuss how the Christmas atmosphere will be because the churches have planned for Christmas,” said the church representative. in a meeting in Medan, Friday (29/10/2021).
Governor Edy then answered. He said there was no ban on Christmas worship in the Church. Edy said the problem was those who took advantage of the Christmas holiday to travel.
“The problem is not Christians who celebrate Christmas, the problem is those who use the red calendar. This is a problem,” said Edy.
Edy said he was sure that Christians who came to church at Christmas would obey health protocols to prevent Corona. He’s even worried about Christians who don’t go to church at Christmas.
“Those who want to go to church, rest assured that they obey the rules. What is difficult is those who don’t go to church, they must be against him, he is against God’s people, let alone us,” he said.
After the meeting, Edy also discussed the issue. Edy Rahmayadi originally said the holiday at Christmas is not only belong to Christians.
“The red calendar starting from the 24th (December) until it may be extended until the 1st (January) does not belong to Christians. Whose belongs to the calendar, it includes all religions,” said Edy.
Edy believes that Christians will take advantage of Christmas and New Year’s Day to worship. In addition to worship, said Edy, the Christmas and New Year’s momentum is also used by Christians to gather with their families.
“What’s difficult is that we don’t burn candles. In the end, we go out and go everywhere. We travel because of the red calendar,” explained Edy.
Edy said that his party also removed joint leave during the Christmas and New Year holidays. He hopes residents obey the rules.
“There is no holiday, it has been confirmed that there is no holiday. The word no holiday must also be implemented,” he explained.
