VIVA – Indonesian experts and government have warned against threats third wave COVID-19 pandemic. According to predictions, this is likely to happen by the end of the year. One of the triggering factors is the community’s neglect of self-protection and high mobility.
The most effective and main protection from COVID-19 is by wearing a mask and washing hands. However, the Head of the Division of the ENT Department of the ENT FKUI-RSCM, dr. Syahrial M. Hutauruk, Sp.THT-KL, suggested adding routines by using antiseptic, be it for hand washing, mouthwash, and nasal spray.
“We don’t know when the pandemic will end. That’s why we don’t slack off, don’t be negligent, continue to protect ourselves by wearing masks, washing hands, or using antiseptics including Povidone-Iodine (PVP-I) to prevent transmission,” he said in a virtual event with Betadine titled Extra Protection for The New Normal, Thursday 28 October 2021.

The use of antiseptic Povidone-Iodine (PVP-I) and Iota Carageenan proved to be effective in killing the SARS-CoV-2 virus, so that it can be used as additional protection during the new normal. Doctor Syahrial said, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the public to reduce the risk of exposure and transmission of disease/infection through personal hygiene. These include hand and respiratory hygiene, and food safety.
“During this pandemic, it is important to maintain oral and respiratory hygiene by gargling and spraying the throat using the antiseptic Povidone-Iodine (PVP-I). This is because the mouth and throat are the entrance and reservoir of SARS CoV -2 causes of COVID-19,” he explained.
