The management of the Chicoutimi hospital is looking for a solution to expand its parking lot, since it is currently a challenge for visitors and employees to find parking.
A specialized firm was commissioned to carry out a soil study on land adjacent to the establishment.
Carried out at a cost of $ 70,000, this analysis will make it possible to determine whether the construction of a parking garage is possible at this location.
“If this is the case, it will be an option that we can evaluate in the event that we decide to go ahead with an additional parking project,” explained the senior consultant for media relations at the CIUSSS Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean, Pierre-Alexandre maltais.
However, he assured that no such project is envisaged in the short term.
“It’s really exploratory,” he said. We are aiming to improve hospital parking, both for our employees and for users. ”
The parking problems at the Chicoutimi hospital are not new.
In January 2020, a petition launched on social networks to demand the expansion of the parking lot had collected more than 4,000 signatures in just a few hours.
Users met near the establishment on Wednesday morning confirmed that they had difficulty finding vacant space.
Others said the situation had recently improved.
At noon this Wednesday, places were still available on the side of rue Saint-Vallier.
The relocation of the collection center outside the walls of the establishment gives visitors a chance.
The pandemic is also helping. The absence of several employees who are teleworking makes it possible to temporarily free up places.
The Chicoutimi hospital parking lot has 1,650 spaces. Thirty percent of these are for visitors, while the rest is for employees.
