It was on Monday that Degerfors defeated rival Örebro 2-1 at Behrn Arena. After the match, the Degerfors players celebrated the victory together with the visiting away supporters.
Victor Edvardsen then started the rhyme “Hate, hate, hate Örebro” – whereupon the Degerfors supporters sang along. The day after the match, Edvardsen spoke about the celebration.
“Magical evening yesterday, thank you to all Rö’vita who were there and did it with us. A lot of emotions yesterday and a chant from me after the match that was unnecessary perhaps,” the striker wrote on his Twitter account.
On Wednesday, Degerfors released a press release on the occasion of the celebration after the derby victory. The club writes that hatred and threats are not in line with the association’s values, and that the rhyme has damaged trust in the association.
“Our values also apply to away matches. There, for natural reasons, we do not have the same opportunities to influence what is shown and sung by the opposing team’s supporters or by visiting supporters, but we know what we can demand of our own leaders and players. We all have a joint responsibility for upholding the values we as an association stand for “, the club writes and continues:
“What happened in connection with the celebration of the derby victory was unnecessary, unfortunate and has damaged confidence in the association. We know better than this and hope that everyone, from the board and employees to members and supporters, wants to be involved and show it in the future.”
Degerfors believes that it is important that the club’s players are positive role models for young people. Therefore, the association has had an “intensive internal dialogue” in recent days to ensure that that part of the values is complied with.
