“The music included in the album is wide, stylistically unified, but with separate moments of flash. It describes the events and feelings of the last year – especially loneliness, uncertainty about the future and uncertainty. At the same time we tried to create songs , which, however, is not intrusive, but is felt and permeates all the compositions of the album, “says Rihards Lībietis.

“Lines and Miniatures” is the second original music album by Rihards Lībiets, which is ideologically similar to the musician’s first album “RL Elektronix”, which was released in 2015. When writing the compositions for the new album, Rihards Lībietis was inspired by post-rock and film music, especially the works of composers Thomas Newman, Ólafur Arnalds and Tony Anderson.

Initially, this was intended as a solo album, in which various guitars would be performed only by Rihards Lībietis, but the music demanded more space and shades, so drummer Toms Kagainis played drums and created various sound effects in several compositions.

Toms Kagainis shares his impressions of the album: “This is definitely one of the most exciting recent experiences I have had. Immeasurable freedom, experimentation and indulgence in direct, pure and true musical language without borders. Thanks to the variety of compositions, the process of recording each song was unique and at the same time challenging. When the traditional instruments began to lack a different timbre and shade, we even recorded tea bags, forks, trays and other attributes found in the studio. “

The album recording has also been enriched by other guest artists, including Erna Daugaviete (cello), Olga Bučinska (violin), Ieva Rūtentāle (flute), Matīss Repsis (piano) and Beāte Zviedre (voice).

The album is called “Lines and Miniatures” because they are all around and permeate our lives and daily lives. The lines are both clearly visible, such as score lines, power lines, and so on, and can only be guessed by the slow and gradual opening of, for example, a person’s way of life. Each piece is also like a small miniature – an adventure with a story that the listener can feel, get to know and enjoy in a few minutes. The theme of lines and miniatures also appears in various ways in the titles of several tracks included in the album, such as “Transmit Parallels”, “Switches”, “Heart Line”, “Whisper Miniature” and others.

The album was recorded in the studio “No Fuss Audio” in Tukums, as well as in the “AMFO Music” studio in Riga. Its sound director, mix and master creator is Valery Cherney, who compares this album to a collage of bright feelings, which each time takes you on a journey of different reflections and reflections. “Each piece has a unique emotional hue, and in order to make these hues feel the most, a thorough and delicate production and mixing work was invested together,” says Valery Cherney.

Along with the album, a video of its second single “Šķelšanās” was published with the participation of Rihards Lībietis and Toms Kagainis. The single tells about the desire to get out of the routine for a moment, to hide from society and get out of the urban environment, as well as about the fact that by choosing to look at life situations with inner peace and from the sidelines, problems often become more solvable and less important.

The video was made in the studio of the creative association “Colortime”, in collaboration with its video artist Arvi Belova, who reveals that with the filming of the video, the studio has experienced consecration, because for the first time it was played with loud drums and guitars. Projections, which have been chosen as a means of expression to represent the free space for thought and to illustrate the unifying motif of the album – lines as accurately as possible, play an important role in the video. The video illuminator is Richard Romush.

The album “Lines and Miniatures” was designed using photographs by Arvīds Baranovs (“Eaglewood Pictures”), which also partly inspired the concept and music of his idea. The design was created by Charlotte Vojevodska.

In the spring of 2022, the album is planned to be released in limited quantities also in vinyl format. It is possible to pre-order the vinyl record of the new album on Rihards Lībietis’ account on the platform “Bandcamp”.
