Surses beckons a lot of money thanks to hydropower

The urn community still has to approve at the end of November, but the community assembly already unanimously approved the deal on Monday evening: For the future use of the Julia and the Albula in the Tiefencastel West power plant, the community of Surses will receive a one-off sum of 2.53 million francs from the city of Zurich’s electricity company EWZ . In addition, EWZ pays a one-time concession fee totaling almost 200,000 francs to the two municipalities of Surses and Albula / Alvra, according to a media release from the municipality. There are also annual payments, including remuneration for free and preferential energy.

In return, EWZ can continue to operate the Tiefencastel West plant until 2050. The existing license expires in July 2022. If a new license has not yet been approved and entered into force, a negotiated transitional arrangement applies. This was finally approved by the meeting on Monday.

A new law on civil protection was also approved without a dissenting vote; According to the notification, it regulates the internal organization of the community in the event of an incident. In the end, one property purchase request in the Gravas industrial zone in Cunter and one in the Davos-Clavo building zone in Salouf was approved without discussion. (jfp)
