At least seven people have been killed in protests against the military coup in Sudan. According to the Ministry of Health, they were killed by gunshots. At least 140 people were also injured.
The Sudanese army seized power in the night from Sunday to Monday. Prime Minister Hamdok and a number of senior officials were arrested, internet and telephone traffic was shut down and soldiers took over the building of the state broadcaster.
The military coup has since been condemned by the United States, the United Kingdom and Norway. In a joint statement, the countries call for the release of anyone wrongfully detained.
Protests
After the seizure of power, Prime Minister Hamdok called for peaceful protests. During the day, images of demonstrations did indeed appear from the African country.
