Semarang, IDN Times – The Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) of Central Java suggested that the takmir of mosques and musalas need to improve the direction of the Qibla after an earthquake.

1. Whenever an earthquake occurs, takmir must correct the direction of Qibla
Secretary of the Central Java DMI, KH Multazam Ahmad said that improvements in the direction of the Qibla must be made to increase faith and piety for Muslims who routinely perform the five daily prayers.
“We remind every takmir or mosque manager who is at an earthquake-prone point to always pay attention to the direction of the qibla. If it is felt that it does not fit or doubt the correctness of the qibla, then it is better to correct the qibla,” said Multazam when contacted by IDN Times, Monday ( 25/10/2021).

According to him, correcting the Qibla direction must be carried out by the takmir who coordinates with representatives of the mosque council at the sub-district and village levels.
“The Qibla can be corrected by looking at the sun’s rays. In addition, you can also use an accurate directional device such as a compass. Or you can refer to the accuracy of the BMKG digital tool. The Qibla direction can also be seen when the culmination point appears in Central Java,” he explained. .

DMI, he said, has also often coordinated with Islamic astronomers to discuss the Qibla direction in each prayer room and mosque.
“And every time there is an earthquake, its movement includes disturbing the direction of the Qibla in the mosque or prayer room. Especially if there is an earthquake of a large magnitude, it must be checked for the Qibla really. Because the earth slabs that vibrate will always affect the Qibla in mosques, houses and houses. residents’ houses and prayer rooms,” said Multazam.
