Mohammed bin Salman vows to kill the king of Saudi Arabia in 2014

WASHINGTON – A former high-ranking intelligence agency Saudi Arabia say Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) in 2014 had bragged to him that he wanted to kill the king of Saudi Arabia. At that time, the king was King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Saud.

Saad al-Jabri, who is involved in counterterrorism efforts in Saudi Arabia alongside the United States, made the claims about MBS in an interview with CBS News in the program “60 Minutes” which aired on Sunday (24/10/2021).

Al-Jabri did not provide evidence for his claim. He is currently living in exile in Canada.

According to him, Prince MBS in 2014 did not hold a senior role in the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. However, MBS served as the gatekeeper of his father’s royal palace, Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, when his father was still crown prince.

King Salman ascended the throne in January 2015 after his stepbrother, King Abdullah, died.

Al-Jabri used the opportunity of the interview to warn Prince MBS that he was filming a video that revealed more royal secrets and some United States secrets.

A short, silent clip was shown to “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley. The video, al-Jabri said, could have been released if he had been killed.

It is the latest attempt by Saudi Arabia’s former counterterrorism official to try to pressure 36-year-old Crown Prince MBS, who al-Jabri’s family says has detained al-Jabri’s two adult children and used them as pawns to force their father back to Saudi Arabia.
