As “Delfi” informs the musician’s representative in Latvia Kaspars Zaviļeiskis, it will be one of the three new mini-albums, in which King Charles will each highlight different styles of his musical creation. “12345” is announced as the most catchy King Charles song to date. Its recording deliberately highlights the strong sound of the living group, complemented by colorful background vocals. Thematically, the song is dedicated to the search for one’s identity in today’s fast-changing world.
Music critics have already called the new song a modern answer to such immortal values of British popular music as “The Kinks” and Elvis Costello, while at the same time echoing the work of such diverse contemporary artists as “Villagers” and “Blossoms”.
The new song was produced by King Charles with his band member Nick Rogers, who is also a musician for Kárryn and SG Lewis, and the final mix was by Simon Hanhart, who has worked with David Bowie and other well-known musicians. The violin “12345” was played by former “Noah and the Whale” and current member of “Gang of Youths” Tom Hobden.
“I’m very excited that” 12345 “will be included in the new mini-album,” says King Charles. “The song came about very quickly, working together in a recording studio. I worked at Eastcote Studios in London with my new band and I also managed to steal my favorite violinist for a while, who connected with his ideas and magic.”
“I’m approaching the sound my previous work revolved around, and this song, as well as the new mini-album, is a new satellite in this orbit,” the musician continues. “The new song perfectly describes where I have been and what I have been through. I will definitely play the new song in the upcoming concerts as well and I have no doubt that people will want to absorb this sound.”
Already at the end of October, after a two-year break, King Charles will perform again on a tour of Great Britain, but in March of next year, a European concert tour is also planned.
This summer, King Charles set up a challenging charity event, running 40 marathons in 40 days in Britain and making music after each race. A total of 1,700 kilometers were traveled along a popular healthy tourist route from the village of John O’Grot in the north-east of Scotland to the village of Lands End in the south-west of England and £ 70,000 was donated to the Regenerate Youth Job Search and Mentoring Program. It is also working to change attitudes towards mentally ill people, which is a topic close to Kings Charles or Charles Costa, as he himself has long faced psychological problems following an accident while skiing in 2010.
“I like the rhythm of the feet when they encounter a road or trail, and the effect that comes to mind,” comments King Charles. “The last 18 months of sitting and isolation have caused anxiety, loneliness and depression, but running and music have always helped me in times when I have felt imprisoned and isolated.”
King Charles’ debut album, LoveBlood, was released almost a decade ago and became popular on the wave of contemporary English folk music, along with music by Mumford & Sons, Lora Marling and Noah and the Whale. His second album “Gamble for a Rose” was released five years ago, but last year “Out of My Mind” came to light, with King Charles embarking on a liberating and eclectic journey into ever new musical directions. All three albums together have exceeded 100 million streams.
