Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir unpacked strategies to help accelerate digitization in Indonesia. He emphasized this strategy by dividing the functions between Telkom and Telkomsel.
Erick said that in the future Telkom will work on a b-to-b or nature business to business, while Telkomsel will be the aggregator of B-to-C or business to commerce. For Telkom, he gave an example of the 5G mining collaboration with PT Freeport Indonesia.
“So Telkom is b-to-b, whether with the education sector, whether with hospitals, with well-built infrastructure? data center, fiber optic, or cloud,” he said in a scientific oration for the Anniversary of the Faculty of Economics, Sriwijaya University, Saturday (23/10/2021).
Meanwhile, Telkomsel will also be assigned to become an aggregator in order to encourage the birth of new creators from Indonesia. The step was taken considering the potential digital market which are deemed less than optimal, are cultivated by domestic talent.
“So that we don’t always get caught up in imports, starting with imported cows, importing sugar, later we will import our daily lives,” he said.
To achieve this, Erick asked Telkomsel to hand over assets related to the b-to-b world to Telkom, including tower–tower telecommunication.
“Telkomsel must hand back all of them” tower–towerto Telkom because this is part of a big strategy,” he said.
