The business people of the Old Port of Quebec believe that the acquisition of Maison Chevalier by Groupe Tanguay will be beneficial for the neighborhood.
“To have businessmen like the Tanguay family in the neighborhood, with all their baggage of successes, it’s interesting,” said AGAVP general manager Richard Samson.
The latter believes that the arrival of the Tanguays in the Old Port, especially within the Quebec flagship that is the Maison Chevalier, will be an asset in the tourism revival of the next year.
Remember that the new buyer wants to make it the head office of his company and integrate the premises from next summer.
“We are emerging from the pandemic. We will have to fight against other cities in the world to attract tourists in 2022. From that point of view, if we could have 50 companies like the Tanguay Group in the neighborhood, we would take them, ”says Mr. Samson.
No ideal solution
The Association des gens d’affaires du Vieux-Port says it understands the demands of people who oppose the sale of the building to a private company.
She agrees that this “may not be the best solution” for maintaining the historical heritage of the place, but it will allow the sustainability of the historic building.
“It’s like the Agora du Vieux-Port. Nothing has happened there for five years. We cannot always ask civil servants and the state to restart business. It takes entrepreneurs to make them live, ”says the general manager of the association.
“It’s easy to denounce and be against. But when we ask [aux détracteurs] how we finance that, they have no solution ”, continues the man.
More accessible
In addition, the president of the Tanguay real estate group, Alexandre Tanguay, recently affirmed that the Maison Chevalier would even be more accessible than ever to the public.
He is also committed to taking care of the heritage building by maintaining and renovating it as needed.
For Richard Samson, this is further proof of the entrepreneur’s good intentions and the positive impact he will have in the neighborhood.
