Panama City, Oct 23 (EFE) .- The health authorities of Panama reported this Saturday 150 new cases of covid-19 and one death, which raised the accumulated infections to 471,403 and 7,307 deaths over more than 19 months pandemic.
There are 31 patients hospitalized in intensive care units (ICU) and 166 in the general ward, while 1,993 are isolated at home and 87 in hotels, for a total of 2,277 active cases of the disease, indicated the daily report of the Ministry of Health. (Minsa).
In the day 6,562 tests were applied for a percentage of positivity of 2.2%. The World Health Organization (WHO) considers a positivity of 5% or less as a parameter that indicates a control of the pandemic.
Panama is currently going through a period of pandemic control, with a sustained downward trend in new cases and hospitalized for the disease, which is attributed to the compendium of preventive measures applied in the country and the advance of vaccination.
Until this Saturday and since last January 20, 5,769,734 doses of the covid vaccines have been administered, of which 3,033,385 correspond to the first vaccine and 2,658,142 to the second.
Another 73,455 correspond to booster doses, which are being applied to immunosuppressed people or with certain specific pathologies, and 4,752 to third doses, which are administered to health workers, security forces and other essential personnel who are more than 6 months old after the second dose of immunizer has been applied.
At least 76.8% of the target population (people 12 years and older) in Panama is vaccinated with its two doses, according to official data. EFE
