Gymnastics World Cup: Italians convince with four medals

The Italian gymnasts won four medals in the apparatus finals of the World Championships in Kitakyushu, Japan on Saturday. Nicola Bartolini took gold on the floor, Asia D’Amato only had to admit defeat to Olympic champion Rebeca Andrade (Brazil). Marco Lodadio and Maresca Salvatore convinced with silver and bronze on the rings. German gymnasts did not qualify for the finals.

The only German chance for a medal in Japan has Pauline Schäfer-Betz on Sunday (10 a.m.) on the balance beam. The former world champion from Chemnitz was the only German gymnast in Japan. In the men’s category, all Germans had missed the finals.

In addition to Bartolini and Andrade, Wei Xiaqyuan (China) on the uneven bars, Stephen Nedoroscik (USA) on the pommel horse and Lan Xingyu (China) on the rings won the titles on Saturday. For all-around world champion Angelina Melnikowa from Russia it was enough to jump to bronze.
