Shortly before the introduction of the home session, the folk dance ensemble “Vektors” of Riga Technical University in cooperation with the group “Tautumeitas” has created a new dance video clip “Brosnej, boy, tušššons”.
The folk song was arranged by the participants of “Tautumeita”, while the choreography was created by Dagmāra Bārbale, the artistic director of TDA “Vektors”. Work on “Brosnej, boy, you drink” started already in 2020, but due to the pandemic, it also failed to show it in the usual way – on stage. Therefore, this autumn, shortly before the introduction of the house session, the dancers of TDA “Vektors” together with video artists Reini Blūma and Otto Avots have immortalized it in the big celebration barn of the recreation center “Ratnieki”. “The lively, emotional and playful choreography depicts the age-old and very topical story described in Latgalian folk songs about the choice and love of the right partner, which the mind does not want to listen to at all,” says Dagmāra Bārbale.
“This time has been full of challenges for Latvian stage dance, so it is especially important that we are able to maintain tradition, create new choreographies, as well as immortalize them and show them to the audience,” said Dagmara. The a cappella version of the song “Brosnej, boy, you drink” was released on the album “Songs from Auleja” by Tautumeitu, but in this collaboration it is complemented by a rich instrumental sound. “Tautumeitas are very happy that, thanks to the initiative of the dance ensemble” Vektors “, it was possible to create this song arrangement and continue to popularize Auleja’s songs through dance,” says Asnate Rancāne.
