Radev demanded an advance from the EU for the emissions, they cut him off

President Rumen Radev has proposed to the European Council that the price of carbon quotas be abolished or at least reduced in order to blunt the impact of rising electricity prices.

As expected, the proposal was rejected, Radev himself told reporters.

“They at least agreed, together with Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary, on the proposal to inspect the electricity and gas markets, as well as the emissions trading market, and if irregularities are found, that measures can be taken. We expect this report to be published by mid-November, “the Bulgarian president commented.

After the meeting of European leaders in Brussels, President Radev expressed the expectation that nuclear energy and natural gas production would be recognized as “green” energy by the European Commission in November.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, for her part, stressed that the current energy crisis should not hinder the continent’s transition to climate neutrality. French President Emmanuel Macron, on the other hand, cited Europe’s excessive dependence on imported energy as the reason for the rise in electricity prices in recent weeks.

The Prime Minister of Italy Mario Draghi called on the European Union to draw up a plan for a common system for storing natural gas without delay.
