At least 15 people have been killed in an explosion in a hall of an explosives factory in Russia. According to local media, the accident happened in the factory when workers wanted to switch on the machines at the start of their shift.
The factory is located near the city of Ryasan, about 200 kilometers southeast of Moscow. A fire started after the explosion. 170 rescue workers have been deployed to the area, Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry said. A spokesman said the explosion was caused by a “breach of the technological process”, but no further details were given. Local residents are not at risk, authorities said.
