Steam Deck is basically a handheld PC, but there are also parts of the system that are proprietary, so it requires individual studios to optimize their games for the platform. Valve intends to review the entire Steam library, and will introduce a “Verified” status for the games that have been optimized.

“After a game is reviewed, it is categorized according to the degree of compatibility on Steam Deck. You will see these categories on Steam when you browse the library or buy games on Deck.” it says.
There are four categories: “Verified”, “Playable”, “Unsupported” and “Unknown”. See a more detailed explanation in the video below.
