Jokowi Recruits Paulus Waterpauw to BNPP because of Intel’s History

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Head of the National Border Management Agency (BNPP) Tito Karnavian revealed the President’s reasons Joko Widodo appointing the Commissioner General Paul Waterpauw as Deputy of BNPP Border Area Potential Management.

Tito said Paulus’ experience in border areas attracted Jokowi’s attention. In addition, Paul’s status as the head of intelligence in the Police is also a special attraction.

“The former police intelligence chief automatically has a comprehensive and complete understanding of Indonesia, so the President has given his trust with his presidential decree to Paul Waterpauw,” Tito said in a recording confirmed by the Ministry of Home Affairs Information Center, Thursday (21/10).

Paulus, said Tito, was assigned to improve border management. He hopes that Paul’s flying hours in various police areas can help improve Indonesia’s borders.

The former National Police Chief reminded that Indonesia’s border areas have enormous potential. However, these areas are often forgotten.

Tito said Jokowi paid special attention to the border. He wants development not only to be centered in urban areas, but also to the borders.

“Well, the development of this border area by looking at the potential, then there is a deputy for the potential development of the border area, that is Mr. Waterpauw’s job,” said Tito.

Paulus Waterpauw was inaugurated as Deputy for Management of Potential Border Areas at the National Border Management Agency (BNPP). The inauguration was held in Jakarta on Thursday (21/10).

Paulus served as Head of the National Police’s Security Intelligence Agency before the inauguration. He also has experience serving as Kapolda in West Papua and Papua.
