It’s a Marvel director herself who says it: Avengers: Infinity War’s destructive Snap was all the fault of hero Steve Rogers, Captain America.
Director of The Marvels (Captain Marvel 2) and fan of the universe since her childhood, Nia DaCosta considers Captain America guilty of the extermination of the world in Avengers: Infinity War. We could thus take him for the villain or the antihero of the film. Anyway, the young filmmaker believes that there is a link between these two roles.
Captain America: the devastating Snap’s fault is on him
During her interview with Inverse, Nia DaCosta claimed that she considers the fate of the Avengers: Infinity War Snap to be Captain America’s fault. Indeed, Steve Rogers – played by Chris Evans – decided not to ” exchange lives “. This is what made it easy for Thanos to grab the Mind Stone from Vision and execute his infamous Snap.
“Something I like to say a little casually about Captain America is that the Snap was all his fault for trying to do his best,” she says. He could then be considered the villain of the film, “because at the end of the day, he should have sacrificed Vision“. “There’s kind of an antihero in there if you want to look at it on that vision,” she continued.

A philosophical point?
“People would say I’m crazy to think of it that way, but there is something related to travelof the antihero and the hero ”. Whether the Snap is Captain America’s fault or not, whether it’s the antihero or the hero, DaCosta takes a rather philosophical approach. Indeed, both are driven by pain. For the hero, this “incites him to martyr himself”, for the villain, it is “something which in a way begins its journey instead of ending it”.
The filmmaker confessed her interest in characters like Superman and Batman who know balance their power and their suffering. They are quite capable of controlling their actions. “Their power equals their pain,” she mentioned. However, she clarified that it is difficult to take full control of yourself.
It is now a fact that we see through Marvel characters. For Magneto, for example, “his emotional life will always dominate his real power”. Moreover, you will discover more when theMCU phase 4, The Marvels, will be released on February 17, 2023.
