Researchers in the field of microbiology from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences Research Center for Biology (LIPI) Sugiyono Saputra said the new variant of Delta Covid-19 named AY.4.2 has not been found in Indonesia.
Previously, AY.4.2, which is a subvariant of the delta strain of the corona virus, was first discovered in the UK. The variant is a descendant of the SARS-CoV-2 lineage which has recently increased in frequency in the UK.

“AY.4.2 is still at a fairly low frequency with a 10 per cent increase in transmission and has resulted in only a small number of additional cases. Therefore, its presence does not encourage the recent increase in the number of cases in the UK.”
