The RRB has documents according to which Mykola Azarov deliberately inflicted damage on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The Pechersk District Court of Kiev in absentia chose a measure of restraint in the form of detention for the former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov. He is suspected of committing high treason by prior conspiracy by a group of persons, informs GBR press service.

“The pre-trial investigation established that the content and conditions of the Agreement between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on the stay of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine were imposed by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on the then Prime Minister of Ukraine on the eve of the signing of the Agreement in Moscow on April 21, 2010. Fully understanding the consequences of signing this Agreement, the former Prime Minister of Ukraine deliberately ensured the endorsement and approval of the draft document by authorized officials (ministers, heads of law enforcement agencies and on behalf of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine), “the statement says.

Thus, Mykola Azarov contributed to the realization of the interests of the Russian Federation at all stages of the approval of the draft Agreement and its implementation.

The investigators of the RRG received the originals of documents testifying to the purposeful actions of the Ukrainian ex-prime minister to the detriment of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Subsequently, such actions contributed to the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation.

“It has been established that these actions were carried out by a preliminary conspiracy of a group of persons with the then President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, who was also informed of the suspicion of this criminal proceeding and was put on the wanted list.

This extramural measure of restraint in the form of detention will allow Ukrainian law enforcement officers to apply for international legal assistance on the extradition of Azarov, and will also initiate a special pre-trial investigation.

Let us recall that criminal prosecution for committing high treason has no statute of limitations. In January 2021, the RRG already reported on suspicion of committing treason to Viktor Yanukovych.
