Avined alerts poultry farmers to the consequences of bird migration

The sector organization Avined draws attention to the biosafety status of their company to poultry farmers. The trade association is doing this with a view to bird migration, which has started again from mid-September.

The migratory birds can bring HPAI viruses to the Netherlands. In mid-October, highly pathogenic bird flu (H5N1) has been diagnosed in a widgeon along the coast of Schleswig-Holstein in Germany. Signals of H5 are also known from Russia, Serbia and the Czech Republic. In addition, a case of low pathogenic H5N1 has been reported in Italy.

A good biosecurity status is, according to Avined, of great importance to reduce the risk of bird flu being introduced. To this end, the sector organization has developed a new, updated hygiene scan, which can be used from 20 October.

The updated scan includes the latest research results that have been translated into practical tips. The scan also contains an up-to-date questionnaire and via the scan it is possible to share results with third parties, such as veterinarians.
