In a post on Instagram, Baudet writes: ‘I’m not saying that AIDS doesn’t exist or that white straight people can’t get it. Only that the chance of that is extremely small. That is why GPs and STD clinics hardly test for it anymore. Unless you belong to a risk group or have had sexual contact with it.’
Aids
On Saturday, during a visit to Heerhugowaard, Baudet said, among other things, that ‘the chance that a white straight person will get AIDS is smaller than that of being struck by lightning. Actually AIDS does not exist for white heterosexuals’, says Baudet.
The speech unleashed a torrent of criticism. Humberto Tan lost his brother to AIDS. The politician’s words touch him personally. He discussed during his talk show what it did to him and concluded: “Baudet finds it necessary to downplay all that suffering and to pour it over with a racist homophobic sauce.”
Comparison corona
Baudet writes on social media that he made a comparison between the fear of corona and the fear of AIDS. “So the enormous fear that was fueled by the entire population in (particularly) the 1990s was irrational and grossly exaggerated. Well, something similar is happening today with corona (which also affects a specific group, albeit a different group this time).’ The politician closes with ‘compassion for everyone’ and wishes everyone a nice day.
