Health Council advice: give all women a cervical cancer self-test

According to the Health Council, this is an opportunity to improve research.

Lower Threshold

About eight hundred women a year now have to deal with cervical cancer, one in four dies from it. More cases of cervical cancer can be detected early with the self-test, the Health Council believes.

By also sending the self-test, the threshold for women to participate in the population screening can be significantly lowered.

Also tested in lab

“With the set, a woman can take material from the vagina herself. Just like the smear that the doctor takes, that material is tested in the laboratory for types of the human papilloma virus (HPV) that carry a high risk of developing cervical cancer” the council says.
