Pescanova rules out settling in the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife due to marine pollution | Radio Club Tenerife

The Galician company Pescanova had been interested in investing 65 million euros in the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with the idea of building a plant of 50,000 square meters for the cultivation of octopus and which would be exported to the Asian continent.

However, the work carried out by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, in the area chosen for the construction of the plant, determined that “just at that point is the wastewater outlet of the capital of Tenerife”, which makes the project unviable. , as Carlos González, president of the Port Authority, has confirmed to Radio Club Tenerife of Cadena SER.

“We were very excited,” acknowledged González, since it meant occupying a large area of the Fishing Dock and the Free Zone of the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Now, with the step back that Pescanova takes, the multinational has set its objective in Puerto de la Luz and Las Palmas. The Galician company’s plans include occupying a space of 52,000 square meters on the La Esfinge dam.
