The UK is experiencing a drastic increase in infection

On Monday, the United Kingdom had 49,156 new registered cases of infection. This is the highest infection rate in the UK since mid-July, according to The Guardian.

Monday’s infection rate was only 19,000 fewer cases than the highest infection rate reported in the UK throughout the pandemic. The infection record was set on 8 January this year, when as many as 68,053 people were registered infected in one day.

The Prime Minister believes it will come as expected, but several experts are worried about the coming time.

Britain has one of the world’s highest coronation-related death rates, with more than 138,629 people having so far lost their lives during the pandemic.

Last week, a report stated that the government’s handling of the pandemic to put it mildly could have been better. According to the report, the belief in herd immunity and groping in the beginning has been the most serious mistakes that have been made.

Challenging months

The official spokesman for Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Max Blain, says that the high number of infections was expected now that winter is approaching.

– We knew that the coming months would be challenging. What we see now is that the number of cases, hospitalizations and deaths is still as we calculated a few months ago, says Blain.

He further says that the vaccination program will be their top priority in the future, together with “new treatment, testing and public information”.

“But we will obviously be following cases closely,” Blain said.

Since the schools opened their doors after the summer, infection rates have increased gradually, and they have seen an increase in the number of infected children even with a decline among adults, according to the news agency Reuters.

More than two thirds of the growing population are fully vaccinated, which despite the high infection rates has so far led to a decrease in death rates and hospitalizations.

Concerned about the infection trend

With nearly 50,000 cases in a day, the country has seen only 16 worse days throughout the pandemic, according to mathematical biologist Kit Yates at the University of Bath and a member of the independent corona research group Independent Sage.

– The narrative has been that the number of infection numbers is not important, but they still are. They do not mean the same thing as they did before the vaccination, but the link between cases and deaths has not been broken, says Yates, and continues:

– We see an average of over 120 daily deaths, which I think is unacceptable. A quick look at the figures from our neighbors in Europe confirms that it did not have to be this way.

– Can face challenges

Professor Andrew Hayward, the government’s adviser on the coronary pandemic, said in an interview with the BBC that he was concerned about the high numbers of infections, hospitalizations and deaths in the UK. Hayward believes that declining immunity among the people is one of the reasons why infection rates have risen.

– We do not ignore the fact that the national health authorities can quickly face challenges, and that we may risk many new deaths that could have been avoided, the professor says.

Hayward is clear that the number of vaccinated must increase, and that the United Kingdom must be prepared to introduce new measures if the infection rates get out of control.
