Braunschweig / Wolfsburg (us) – Train travelers and commuters will have to be prepared for massive disabilities from next week. Due to construction work, Deutsche Bahn has announced restrictions on train traffic between Braunschweig and Wolfsburg. Commuters from the Harz region who drive to work in Lower Saxony are also likely to be affected.
The background to the construction work is that the previously single-track route on the Weddeler Loop is to become double-track. To this end, several large line closures are planned between Weddel and Fallersleben. Roads are also affected by the measures, as the Deutsche Bahn announced.
The state road L 321 / Wettmershagener Straße near Sülfeld is already closed until the end of July 2022. From mid-October 2021, the bridge over the railway line on the Schacht II utility route in Ehmen will probably be closed until October 2022, according to Deutsche Bahn.

The renewal of the southern section between Weddel andehre should include the first section of the construction work. This will be followed as planned by the northern section of the route between Lehr and Sülfeld between 2022 and 2023. “The double-track Weddel Loop is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2023,” said Deutsche Bahn.
The company advises train travelers, including commuters from Saxony-Anhalt and the Harz Mountains, to find out about alternative routes to their desired destinations.
