Tallinn, Oct. 18, LETA – BNS. In the municipal elections held in Estonia on Sunday, the Center Party won the most votes from political parties, according to the results published by the Central Election Commission.
Electoral associations received the most votes – 24.5%, followed by the Center Party with 24.1% of votes.
The Liberal Reform Party, which together with the Center Party forms the ruling coalition of Estonia, won 17.4% of the vote.
This is followed by the right-wing populist Conservative People’s Party (EKRE), which received 13.2% of the vote, the national conservative party “Tēvzeme” (8.4% of the vote), the non-parliamentary liberal party “Estonia 200” (6.1% of the vote), the Social Democratic Party (5% of the vote), the Green Party, which is not represented in parliament (1.1% of the vote).
Independent candidates received 0.3% of the vote.
In Tallinn, the Center Party has received 45.2% of the vote and 38 seats, so its capital will no longer be able to rule alone, as it has been until now, and it will have to form a coalition. In second place with 18% of the vote and 15 seats is the Reform Party, followed by “Estonia 200” (9.6% of the vote and eight seats), EKRE (9.4% of the vote and eight seats), the Social Democratic Party (7.5% of the vote) and six seats) and “Fatherland” (7.1% of the vote and five seats).
The Tartu Reform Party won 19 seats, EKRE and “Estonia 200” – eight seats each, the Social Democratic Party – five seats, the Center Party – four seats.
In Narva, the “Katri Raika list” created by the former mayor of the city and former Minister of the Interior Katri Raika has received 15 seats, the Center Party – 10 seats, the list “Long live Narva!” – four seats and “Estonia 200” two seats.
In Pärnu, EKRE will have 10 seats, the Reform Party and the “Pärnu Unite” list – nine seats each, the “Fatherland” – six seats and the Center Party – five seats.
The Kohtla-Järve Center Party has won 12 seats, the Social Democratic Party five seats, the “Let’s Restart Kohtla-Järve” list four seats, and the Reform Party and the Progress electoral bloc two seats each.
In Viljandi, the list “With all my heart in Viljandi” has won eight seats, the Reform Party – seven seats, EKRE and “Tēvzeme” – four seats, the Center Party and “Estonia 200” – two seats each.
In Rakvere, the “Fatherland” will have nine seats, the Center Party and EKRE four seats each, the Social Democratic Party two seats, and the Reform Party and Estonia 200 each won one seat.
54.8% of eligible citizens have participated in Estonian municipal elections. Turnout in the two largest cities, Tallinn and Tartu, was 54.6%.
In the previous municipal elections in 2017, the voter turnout was 52.2%.
