The 29-year-old millionaire daughter Marlene Engelhorn is the face of a group of more than fifty young German-speaking heirs who want to distribute their wealth more fairly. Their action group Tax Me Now argues for higher taxes for the rich.

Engelhorn became angry when she heard how much money she would inherit. She thinks she doesn’t deserve the money. “I happen to come from the right family. What an achievement,” she told Buitenhof on Sunday. She does not like the fact that the tax on labor is much higher than that on wealth. At least workers still get something for their money. You can’t say that about rich heirs.

The 29-year-old, who expects to get tens of millions, does not think it is fair that the rich now hardly have to pay taxes thanks to all kinds of tricks. “No one can avoid paying taxes unless you are very rich.”

She doesn’t like philanthropy, like Bill Gates’s. After all, if the money goes to the government, everyone can participate in the decision-making process about how the money is spent. “The essence is that the government is democratic. Everyone has a voice.”
