NEW YORK – Food delivery drivers continue to be targeted and robbed in New York City. The most recent occurred early Saturday morning, when one of them was fatally stabbed during the theft of his electric bicycle inside a Manhattan park, police announced.
The brutal stabbing, which happened around 1:00 am, was caught on camera. The images serve as a tool for New York City Police detectives to investigate whether the possible culprit is related to a series of attacks.
According to authorities, the suspect stabbed a 51-year-old food delivery man identified as Saia Miah of Brooklyn, who was with his electric bicycle in a park in the city. Lower East Side.
The video, released by police on Sunday, shows the exchange between the two men. The victim was sitting on a park bench when the alleged attacker approached and sat next to him. The police cut parts of the video of the attack, but this shows when the suspect arrives at the scene and then drives away with the delivery boy’s bicycle.
Detectives pointed to our sister chain NBC New York that the delivery man worked for GrubHub. A company spokesman could not confirm the employment status on Saturday.
The victim was stabbed in the face and stabbed in the torso. It was found by a passerby who called 9-1-1, police said.
When officers arrived, the victim was in bad shape. Police confirmed that paramedics transported the man to Bellevue Hospital, but he did not survive his injuries.
A possible suspect has been detained on weapons charges, but authorities are still investigating whether he is the man responsible for Miah’s death.
