A 2.5-year-old toddler died in hospital on Friday after the child became unwell during lunch at school on Thursday afternoon. That was confirmed to our editors.

The toddler became unwell during lunch last Thursday. “The situation was so serious that the school immediately called the emergency number 112 for medical support,” Wouter Boute, general director of the Sancta Maria district school, told Het Laatste Nieuws. “The toddler was taken to hospital to receive appropriate medical attention.” The child died Friday “despite all medical care”.
According to Boute, the pupils of the school have been received in recent days by their teachers, the Center for Pupil Guidance, and the pedagogical guidance service. “The employees who witnessed the incident were able to see a psychologist from the school’s occupational health service,” it sounds.
