During the delivery of the donation from Spain to Guatemala of 151,200 vaccines against COVID-19, the Minister of Health, Francisco Coma, talked about vaccination in minors. The official acknowledged that the rate of immunization decreased due to the high influx of patients, but this will resume soon.

ATTENDANCE WAS NOT CONTEMPLATED

Dr. Francisco Coma described that the initial plan consisted of vaccinating only people between 12 and 17 years of age with comorbidities. Despite the above, vaccination for this age group was indiscriminately presented, which is why a significant number of minors were received and the Pfizer units were exhausted.

In this sense, Coma confirmed a decline in the rate of vaccination of young people; However, he said that the sessions will resume as soon as the receipt of more vaccines suitable for this group is confirmed.

“We know it is in the short term,” Coma commented regarding the immunization stagnation and reported that confirmation of the arrival of more vaccines is still awaiting.

NEAREST LOAD SHOULD BE PFIZER

At the end of September, President Alejandro Giammattei estimated that the closest arrival of Pfizer vaccines would be on October 15 – yesterday; However, it was not specified and instead a donation from Spain for 151,200 biologicals from AstraZeneca arrived on October 16.

The Department of Communication of the MSPAS was consulted on this; however, there was no response to the query made recently.

DONATIONS CONTINUE: ALMOST 62% OF VACCINES ARE DONATED

With the new delivery of the government of Spain, Guatemala adds 10,250,420 doses entered, both purchased and donated. In particular, Spain, through three shipments, has granted Guatemala 660 thousand AstraZeneca units through the Global Access Fund for COVID-19 Vaccines (Covax, for its acronym in English).

To date, 6,332,100 donated vaccines have been received, while 3,918,320 vaccines have been obtained through purchases.

In other words, 61.77% of the biologicals received in the country are from the international community, while those purchased correspond to 38.23%.

It should be noted that the only vaccine purchased directly has been Sputnik V from Russia, for which a delivery of 8 million units was agreed to cost Q614.5 million. From this manufacturer 2 million 660 thousand vaccines have been obtained, that is, 33.25% of the total paid. On the other hand, through Covax it has been possible to receive 1,258,320 biologics from the pharmaceutical companies AstraZeneca and Pfizer.
