The last Alitalia flight ended the long life of the former national airline that left space in the skies for the newco Ita. The millions of passengers who flew with Alitalia were also forced to abandon … the “MilleMiglia” loyalty program which cannot be bought by Ita Airways. It will therefore have to be sold, through a public tender, to other interested companies.
Over 6 million writings on the loyalty program
There are approximately 6.1 million members of the loyalty program who will be able to continue to accumulate other “miles” thanks to commercial partners such as lastminute.com and airline partners such as Air France, KLM and Middle East Airline. However, the accumulated miles cannot be used. According to the latest news an agreement could be reached with the airlines KLM, Air France and Mea to be able to use them also on their flights. In any case, the European Union does not prohibit the possibility for a third company (in this case Ita) that wins the loyalty program to enter into an agreement with the new Italian company.
Flights already booked will not be honored by Ita
With regard to flights already booked it was decided that tickets issued by Alitalia for flights starting from 15 October cannot be honored by Ita Airways. This was decided by the European Commission. If the customer has not yet received communication via e-mail, he must contact the extraordinary administration to request a refund because the connection already booked will no longer be carried out. In the event of a voucher issued by Alitalia with flights canceled due to the spread of Covid, a refund must be requested from the old Italian company. 100 million euros have been allocated to be able to return the money to all users, even for those who have a voucher that they have never been able to use.
