“Queen Elizabeth II has targeted world leaders who” talk “but” do not “do enough for climate change, given those who do not participate in the upcoming COP26 summit,” AFP reported.
The Queen was heard making remarks over the microphone as she opened the Welsh Assembly in Cardiff on Thursday.
She told Elin Jones, the speaker of parliament, “It’s really annoying when they talk but do nothing.”
All eyes are on the UN climate summit in Glasgow, which begins on October 31, and on whether Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend.
The Queen, Princes Charles and William, as well as other high-ranking royalty will attend the event, BGNES said.
Elizabeth II’s comments come after public speeches this week by her son, Prince Charles, and her grandson, Prince William.
Longtime environmentalist Charles told the BBC that he was worried that world leaders would “just talk” instead of “doing things on the ground”.
In a separate television interview, Prince William called for more than “smart talk” and condemned space tourism: “We need some of the world’s greatest brains and minds to try to fix this planet, not look for the next a place to go live. “
The meeting will try to persuade large emerging economies to do more to reduce their carbon emissions and get the rich world to allocate billions more to help poorer countries adapt to climate change.
