The president of the Provincial Council of Palencia, Ángeles Armisén, yesterday welcomed the foreign delegation that represents the seventeen countries that bring the most pilgrims to the French Camino de Santiago, summoned by the Association of Municipalities of the Camino de Santiago (AMCS) this weekend in Frómista.
What the AMCS intends, with the involvement of the Palencia Provincial Council, the Junta de Castilla y León, and the Ministry of Culture and Sports, bringing together foreign associations of the Camino, is to give a voice to the real diversity of the Camino and open the capacity for their vision and needs to be transferred to the Spanish management of the Camino. “We must not forget”, as the German Association of Trier reminds us, “is that the Camino de Santiago was a European movement from its inception. Ultimately, the Camino must be understood as a network that spans the whole of Europe, turned into a global phenomenon. The part and the whole go together. One does not exist without the other. “

The general director of Tourism and Commissioner of Jacobeo also participated in the welcoming ceremony, Star Torrecilla, pointing out that the Camino de Santiago is a thousand-year-old sign of identity for a new strategy of tourist dissemination and promotion that must take into account its real dimension for the Junta de Castilla y León.

MEETING. The technical day of the Meeting is held today in Santa María del Castillo (Frómista) Asset of Cultural Interest since 1944, an important late Gothic Church, which today houses the audiovisual project “Vestigia”.
