Alvaro Pardo Palencia, a lawyer and university professor, believed it was the end. He had gone out to lunch with his daughter at a restaurant in the north of Barranquilla.
On his way back to his house on Calle 85 and Carrera 49, he was surprised by the current of the trembling stream
“The car became a boat”he told Ground Zero.
Knowing the experience of the turbulence of the water, Don Álvaro did not lower the glass and let himself be carried away by the current.
That saved him. The vehicle was swept away. He entered the channel of Carrera 50 and already believed that he had reached that point. About to enter the canal on Carrera 51 B, soldiers from the Army who guard the area noticed the emergency.
At first they believed that there were no occupants of the vehicle but later they managed to see Don Álvaro Pardo asking for help in the midst of the turbulence of the water.
Today the lawyer and university professor, Álvaro Pardo Palencia gives thanks to the soldiers, Carlos Andrés Caraballo Calderón and Jaime Iván Arellana Ávila, soldiers from the Military Police Battalion Number 2 of Barranquilla, for saving his life. They are his heroes because they risked their lives to save him.
