On the eve of the mandatory green pass coming into force, it is possible to predict in which sectors they could occur more difficulties on the day of the debut. There are several sectors for which categories and unions fear particular difficulties up to the risk of a stop: from checks to tests for those who are not vaccinated up to the problems that could arise in cases where employees, not having the certificate, do not will present at work.
Certainly, the percentage of unvaccinated in the individual sectors, even if identified on the basis of estimates mostly from trade union sources, provides some clues. From this point of view, dockers could run more risks (40% of unvaccinated), but also road hauliers (30% would not be vaccinated, according to the estimate provided by Conftrasporto-Confcommercio). A picture that on the whole could lead to the introduction of the new complex rules, with strikes and unrest. A scenario in line with what happened on the eve, and in particular with the protests of dockers and hauliers. Faced with the pressure to make tampons free for unvaccinated workers, a claim also supported by some political forces of the majority (from the Lega di Matteo Salvini to the M5s, pushed on this point by the founder Beppe Grillo), the government closes, despite being aware that this strategy could block some sectors on Friday 15 October. A different choice could be interpreted as a failure, or as a disavowal of those who have been vaccinated.
Ports: 40% of workers are not vaccinated
The spokesman for the port of Trieste, Stefano Puzzer explained that 40% of the port workers are not vaccinated. Italian-flagged ships have multinational crews, many from countries that have vaccinated people with serums recognized by the WHO, but not by the EMA and therefore not in a position to generate the Green pass. Many dockers are foreigners and in many cases, like al Port of Trieste, a high percentage, 40%, do not have the Green Pass.
Security sector, in 60 thousand without coverage
The first unknown ahead of October 15 concerns the police and, more generally, the security sector. «According to our estimates, which are approximate – explained Antonio Nicolosi, general secretary of the Unarma carabinieri union – about 15 thousand carabinieri are not vaccinated. The figure is similar in the police while it increases a lot for the penitentiary: I wonder who will control the detainees? If we then add the local police, the soldiers who patrol the cities, the firefighters, there will be at least 60 thousand security operators without vaccines ”. In the police alone, the data of the police unions relating to the mobile departments – those engaged in public order services and therefore at the forefront of the demonstrations – reveal that the percentage is in some cases very consistent and higher than the average of the non-immunized of the Corps, just over 20%. In Turin one agent out of three is not vaccinated, in Florence almost four out of ten. In Rome and Milan, however, it is slightly better, even if in each of the wards of the two cities there are about a hundred policemen who have not even taken the first dose.
Agriculture: one third of the 390 thousand workers
In this sector many foreign workers are employed who are not vaccinated or immunized with “unrecognized” vaccines, whose absence – even if only temporarily – could interrupt entire supply chains. And the question of foreign workers – especially from the East – vaccinated with Sputnik, a serum not recognized by the EMA, remains open. To overcome the impasse there are several hypotheses being studied, one of these is to carry out a further additional dose with an mRna serum in those who are vaccinated with sera not recognized by the EMA. About a third of the 390,000 employees in the sector, the general manager of Confagricoltura Francesco Postorino pointed out, may not be usable, and this could create problems. Without forgetting the historical crux of the lack of regularization of workers, who have expired permits, and are reluctant to get vaccinated, and therefore cannot obtain the Green pass.
