The artist Filip Sedefchev – author of the symbol of the international festival “Surva”, has died, announced the press center of Pernik municipality. His name will remain connected with the history of Pernik. In his more than half a century of creative career, Sedefchev has worked in a whole range of plastic arts – painting, ceramics, sculpture, tapestry, stained glass, monumental, graphic and spatial design. He has left hundreds of works strongly related to native traditions, nature and Bulgarian identity.
Filip Sedefchev was born on September 25, 1935 in the village of Sadovik, Breznishko region. The colorful rugs and costumes, the tales and songs, the masks of the survakars, the shepherding and the natural beauties permanently impressed the future artist and predetermined his path. In 1955, Philip was admitted to the National Academy of Arts under the paragraph “Exceptional Talents.” Even as a student he proved to be an excellent painter and painter. In 1961 he graduated with a degree in Painting from Prof. Nenko Balkanski. Since 1967 he has been a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists.
From the late 60s of the last century, the artist began working on a series of paintings and plastic works related to the traditions of the Raw custom and folk mythology. At that time, however, some of his artistic pursuits were often misunderstood and even rejected by some exhibitions. The argument was that they did not correspond to the method of socialist realism then imposed in art. Despite these problems, Filip Sedefchev persistently continued his search and gradually created his own recognizable decorative style, the press release notes.
Since the 1980s, his work has evolved into more abstract, clean forms. Sedefchev is the author of over 300 posters, preserved signs, coats of arms. He has realized many monumental works in Bulgaria and abroad, the press center said
