Scientists at Ghent University have discovered that there is a connection between the consequences of infection with the coronavirus and the presence of certain nutrients in the bodies of the patients. They studied the blood of 138 corona patients who ended up in hospital.
The analysis of the Belgian Covid patients already revealed something remarkable. “Almost all patients who would eventually become seriously ill or even die in hospital were found to have a serious deficiency of selenium and zinc in their blood when they were admitted.” Among the Covid patients who failed, seven in ten were severely deficient in both selenium and zinc. Patients who did not have this deficiency or in whom it was less pronounced survived Covid-19 more often and healed more quickly. “They were clearly less seriously ill.”

According to the researchers, this is a risk factor that has received little attention. Earlier, German researchers also concluded that the two nutrients are important.
Professor Gijs Du Laing (UGent) states in the AD when asked that it is not the case that everyone should now take supplements. Only very vulnerable people who suffer from shortages can benefit from this. According to the Nutrition Center selenium on zink in so many products, from nuts to fish, that it is virtually impossible to become deficient on a normal diet. The frail elderly in care centers run that risk because, for example, they can no longer chew and are only given liquid food.
