Zutphen hospital fires three employees, obstetrics department closed

Gelre Zutphen Hospital has fired three employees of the obstetrics department because they behaved ‘very unprofessionally’.

The hospital does not want to disclose exactly what happened for privacy reasons. Due to the dismissal of the three, the department is temporarily closed so that women can no longer give birth in the Zutphen hospital for the time being, a statement said.

The management launched an investigation after an internal report about the unprofessional behavior. This has shown that the quality and safety of care have not been endangered, according to the top of the hospital. But the behavior of the three was such that they had to leave immediately, reports Broadcasting Gelderland.

Staff shortage

Gelre Hospitals is struggling with a significant staff shortage, which has become even greater due to the dismissal of the three employees. That is why deliveries are no longer possible for the time being. Pregnant women who have to give birth should move to Apeldoorn, Deventer, Doetinchem, Winterswijk or Arnhem. The gynecology and obstetrics outpatient clinic is open as usual.

The management hopes to be able to say at the end of October when the obstetrics department can be reopened.
