Girgenson will be one of Sabers’ two assistant captains this season

Buffalo (USA), Oct. 12, LETA. Latvian striker Zemgus Girgensons will be one of the two assistants to the Buffalo “Sabers” captain during the 2021/2022 National Hockey League (NHL) season.

The Buffalo team will not have a captain this season, but Jack Aikel, who has worn a “C” patch in previous seasons, is not playing yet and his future in the “Sabers” team is very uncertain. Sabers has appointed long-time team players Girgenson and Kail Okposo as assistant captains.

Girgenson will start his ninth season for the Sabers this week, and the Okposo Buffalo will play for 6th year in a row.

Last season, Grigenson did not play a game due to an injury, but in the 2019/2020 season, he scored 12 goals in 69 games, made seven assists and scored at a negative efficiency of -1, spending his best season in the last five years.

The Sabers will play their first match of the season on Thursday when they start a series of four home games against Montreal’s Canadiens.
