Xiaomi presents flagship mobiles galore and the latest is called Xiaomi 11T Pro. One should perhaps not say that it is a completely new generation, because it was before the summer that Xiaomi released its 11-series. Rather, this is a complement that builds on that series without really taking the place of any of those phones. The new Xiaomi 11T Pro has a lot in common with the Mi11i that came before the summer and it is clear where Xiaomi put the gunpowder this time.
The cameras and screen are high class while fast charging is in the center and the thus obvious main number is that the phone should be able to be charged 0-100 percent in just 17 minutes, this with the charger that comes with the package. The charger is quite large and clumsy, so that’s the price you have to pay, but Xiaomi assures in any case that the charging should be safe and not lead to overheating because you have a number of safety measures in place. When I first discharge the battery completely so that the phone shuts down and then charges, the included charger manages to fill from 0 to 100 percent in 19 minutes and 40 seconds. 19 percent in the first five minutes, it reaches 50 percent in 9 minutes and 30 seconds and 70 percent in 13 minutes. The battery itself is also at a generous 5000 mAh so once you have charged it is enough for a good while. It thus lasts a whole day with fairly normal use and also charges quickly when you need it.
The phone does not get noticeably hot when it is charged, even though it goes so fast, but the temperature increase can be clearly noticeable when I test the phone’s performance and run more demanding apps. When I do, it gets hot just below the camera on the back, not so hot that you burn yourself, but still clearly noticeable. It even happens that the benchmark app I use shuts down and the test is interrupted when the phone just announces that it is too hot.
The app that tests the performance is thus shut down and it is only when I improvise and put the phone on a package of frozen chicken fillet I have available, that the cold from the chicken helps the phone to complete the performance test so we actually get a result. Exactly the same thing happened with the Mi11 when we tested it in March this year, so it confirms, among other things, the relationship and that the phones in the 11 series have a lot in common.
However, I do not get these overheating problems with normal use, but it is only when I push the phone’s performance with, for example, benchmark apps and it only applies to some of them. Not even when the phone shuts down the app itself is the back so hot that you burn yourself.
Good enough
When it comes to cameras, Xiaomi itself says that they should contribute with joy, in practice creative tools you can use, for example, to fill your social media with unique content. This includes the ability to take pictures with the clone tool, which works so that you can capture a movement by having a person who moves several times in one and the same picture or video. It’s a little fun to play with, at least for the first time. Otherwise, the camera app also has a good portrait mode that provides a blurry background, here is a night mode and also slow motion panorama and everything else we expect today.
The cameras themselves consist of a main camera of 108 megapixels, which is complemented by a wide angle and a telephoto that provides 2 times optical zoom. So they do not reach the extreme zoom that some of the more expensive competitors have and it does not let in as much light as for example S21 Ultra when I compare the two in dark photos, but Xiaomi 11T Pro goes a long way and handles most everyday situations well .
Good but not perfect
The screen is not the same high-resolution slightly larger screen that is in the Mi11, but here we find a screen with a lower resolution instead. It is 6.67 inches instead of the 6.81 inches that the screen in the Mi 11 measures. What still speaks for the screen in this Xiaomi 11T Pro, because it is without a doubt a good screen, is that it has a fast 120 hertz update, that the color reproduction as well as the richness of detail is good and also the brightness is good. This combined with the raw performance offered and the Xiaomi interface makes the phone feel fast all the time when I use it.
If you watch a movie in a long, narrow format, you will notice that the hole for the selfie camera is quite small, so it does not bother much. If, on the other hand, you look at a clip in a more common 16: 9 format, you will instead get black edges on the sides, so that the hole does not interfere at all, because the screen is wider than 16: 9, more precisely 20: 9.
Furthermore, the screen is equipped with Always on Display so you can see notices, time, battery level and so on even when the phone and screen are in sleep mode.
On the outside, the 11T Pro is a combination of glass and metal. The screen is flat and thus has no curved edges. However, it has the back, so the phone fits well in the hand. The front is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, which is the most durable and also the back is made of glass. There, our test specimen has a discreet gray pattern reminiscent of brushed metal. The camera module looks a bit out of the shell, but not at all as much as on some other phones and in a way the slightly streamlined format makes the phone feel lighter and smoother than the 204 grams it still weighs.
Another important factor that we have not touched on yet is of course the price. With a price tag of SEK 7,000, the Xiaomi 11T Pro is a bit below the real flagships and still offers flagship performance. The clear priorities where the ambitions have been reduced are, for example, to refrain from support for wireless charging and the phone is not water-resistant to more than IP53 standard, which means that it can handle a spray shower but no more. Then you may also lack higher resolution on the screen and better camera, especially when it comes to extreme zoom and images in the dark, but the Xiaomi 11T Pro goes a long way and is an affordable phone.
