Will the pupils of the Jeanne d’Albret high school in Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines) soon be purely and simply deprived of a canteen?
While the management of the establishment must already manage the constraints related to Covid-19 for the organization of this service, it must also face a recurring problem of “qualified and sufficient catering staff” for its preparation. .
“No holder would be available, nor any contractual”
A problem which, if not resolved, could push this high school of nearly 1,600 students to close the catering.
The principal, Catherine Mary, provided an update on the situation in a letter sent in early October to the students and their parents.
“We were received by the Ile-de-France Region on Friday October 1 in order to present our personnel problems in person. No long-term solution was offered to us again: no holder would be available, nor any contractual. “
Contacted on Monday, October 11, at the beginning of the afternoon, the latter adds:
“Today, we work with 3 temporary cooks on 4 cooking stations for lunch. Interim implies very short contracts, renewals … Sometimes, we do not know on Friday whether it will be renewed for Monday. And above all, these are people that we must train every time. “
In this configuration, the principal cannot envisage the expected rise in power following the establishment of the material conditions allowing to welcome in complete safety all the pupils wishing to go to the canteen.
Can’t go from 850 to 1,300 meals a day
“We have a very large half-board. Currently, we are at 850 meals per day, but as of October 18, we will go up to 1,200 / 1,300 meals per day. This is the norm for our 1,600 students. For now, we have curbed our capacity, which could have already improved, as we were very cautious about the threat of a 4th wave. But, with interim cooks, it’s not strong enough to consider going to 1,200 / 1,300 meals a day. “
Thus, if the conditions are not met, the principal indicates in her letter to the pupils and parents that she will be forced to close the canteen.
“I therefore draw your attention to the fact that, if on Monday, October 18, the Region still did not offer us a lasting solution (assignment of holder or contractual for a long time), we would then be obliged to purely and simply to close the catering as of this date and as long as qualified personnel are not recruited. “
A shift to access the canteen
While the ramp-up had, at first, been considered from October 1, the situation has prompted management to renew, for this week again, the system of rotation existing since last year.
This should make it possible not to exceed the limited reception capacities set up in the context of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
If all the students now have access to the canteen on Friday, the terminales cannot access it on Monday, the first classes on Tuesday and those of second on Thursday.
As for Wednesday, only students who have lessons in the afternoon can still go there.
“Thank you to the students who do not have lessons on certain afternoons (on Fridays for example) for not having lunch in the canteen,” adds the management of the establishment in the letter. In general, we would like to thank the students who can, preferably for having lunch at home. “
The situation is obviously not to the liking of the representatives of the parents of the pupils who support the principal in her fight to maintain the canteen.
“No good conditions”
“That we leave the possibility to the children to go to eat outside, it is one thing, but the principle of the canteen is that they can have a hot meal, of good quality to complete their day of work so that they can concentrate on their studies. When I see children who eat sitting on the floor in the street around the school, I tell myself that they are not necessarily in good conditions. In any case, these are not the conditions that we expect for them so that they can end their day in a serene way. “
If the temperatures are still mild, what will be the lunch of high school students taken outside when they drop and the weather will be more capricious?
The Region promises a titular cook
Asked, on Friday October 15, on this problem encountered at the Jeanne d’Albret high school in Saint-Germain-en-Laye and on this threat of closing the canteen, the Ile-de-France Region indicated, on Monday October 11 in end of the day, that a solution would have been found.
She ensures that a full cook should be assigned to the school from October 18.
Of the 46 regional agent positions in the school, the Region has 10 absent agents. The Île-de-France Region has therefore deployed, since the start of the September school year, temporary staff to compensate for absenteeism, guarantee the proper functioning of the school and ensure the continuity of the public service. Today, 7 general maintenance staff and 3 temporary cooks are present. To strengthen the regional team, a full cook will be assigned to this establishment as of October 18.
For the Region, which would have informed the management of the establishment of the Lycée Jeanne d’Albret of the solutions found, all of these measures should “allow the catering service to function. “
