President Vladimir Putin held a video conference with his subordinates on agricultural policy on Monday, writes Bloomberg.

During the video conference, which was also broadcast on television, Putin coughed a number of times.

The coughing led to speculation that he had been infected with the coronavirus.

In a meeting with the National Security Council later on Monday, also televised, Putin was asked about his health by the head of the upper house, Valentina Matvijenko.

– Do not be afraid, everything is fine. They test me practically every day. Not only for covid-19, but also for all other types of infections, so everything is fine, Putin said.

Instead, 69-year-old Putin blamed the room for being cold.

The incident comes just weeks after Putin in September isolated himself for a period after being in close contact with corona-infected people.

On September 26, the news agency Sputnik sent out a series of photos of Putin on holiday in Siberia, where he fished, among other things. It was only twelve days after he had gone into isolation after being in close contact with corona infected.

Approaching 1,000 dead a day

957 people have lost their lives to covid-19 in Russia in the last 24 hours, writes AFP. This is the highest number in a single day.

Russia is now in its third, and most powerful, wave during the pandemic. The increase occurs at the same time as the number of vaccinations has almost stopped.

In July, Russia set up to 0.6 doses per 100 inhabitants per day. In October, that number dropped to less than 0.2 doses per 100 inhabitants per day

The result is that just over 30 percent of the population is fully vaccinated. That is far less than half the number in Norway.

“The level of vaccinations is low, unacceptably low,” said President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Monday. He added that the low vaccination rate was the reason for the high death rate.

Russia has for several months offered several different types of self-developed vaccines, but the population is skeptical about being vaccinated.

Independent opinion polls show that more than half of Russians say they do not intend to be vaccinated.

A total of 217,372 people lost their lives during the pandemic. Statistics Sweden Rosstat, which calculates differently, said on Friday that more than 400,000 people had died with the coronavirus.
