Van der Sloot, now 34, was sentenced to 28 years in prison in June 2010 for the murder of Peruvian Stephany (21). The Dutchman was mainly known for this by the missing person case of the American Natalee Holloway (18) in Aruba. Van der Sloot is still a suspect in that case and the girl has never been found.
To hell on earth
Good behavior would have allowed Van der Sloot to be free in Peru, but because he also made a few mistakes in prison – such as illegal possession of telephone calls and he is currently being suspected of drug smuggling – there is no question of any penalty reduction.

In fact, the Dutchman was transferred for the second time just before the summer to ‘hell on earth’, as the maximum-security prison in Challapalca is called.

The complex is located at an altitude of 4500 meters in the Andes Mountains, near the border with Bolivia. Human rights organizations have complained several times about the medieval conditions. For example, it is extremely cold and there is virtually nothing. Visitors are rare because it is so remote. The prisoners are monitored 24 hours a day. Only the biggest criminals of Peru are here, such as drug leaders, murderers and terrorists.
Unique tour
What exactly it looks like inside has remained a secret until now. But a reporter for the Peruvian channel America TV was given a unique tour of the prison director. He talks to serious criminals.
And also briefly with Joran van der Sloot, who has an exceptional position in prison. They still see him as extremely dangerous. With one other prisoner (a drug cartel leader in Armani shoes), he is therefore kept separate from the other approximately 150 prisoners.

On the end of the report meet the reporter Van der Sloot who smiles sheepishly into the camera. “Why are you here?” he asks the Dutchman. “I have not behaved well,” replies Van der Sloot who does not seem to have much sense in an interview. The reporter then shows Van der Sloot’s small room.

Apart from an iron bed, a desk, a trash can and a shelf with a few things, there isn’t much to look at. The reporter stands in the room and closes with the words: “He can laugh here now, but what about the father of the girl he killed, his victim?”
