The International Handball Federation (IHF) has updated its rules and guidelines for the matches in the beach handball circus. It appears that the bikini requirement for women is removed, writes the Danish news agency Ritzau.
From 1 January 2022, women can play in shorts and singlet. However, the women have to play in tight-fitting shorts.
The Norwegian Handball Association was fined by the European Handball Association in July after Norway’s female beach handball national team played matches in shorts.
After that, the Norwegian Handball Association has called for a change in the rules. Now they have made an impact.
The President of the European Handball Federation (EHF) Michael Wiederer welcomes the changes.
– The EHF appreciates the IHF’s decision. After the decision at the EHF Congress in April 2021 to change the uniform rules, it is good to see that the input has been assessed and the changes we proposed are implemented, he says in a comment on EHF’s website.
