Saturday October 16, for the spiritual musical break “Organ at noon”, between 12 noon and 12:30 pm at the cathedral of Nîmes, it is Betty Maisonnat who will play the organ to the delight of her listeners.
The third Saturday of the month is fast approaching and he announces the next concert organized by the association of the Friends of the organs of the cathedral of Nîmes. A musical time which is necessarily mixed with spiritual time because the concert takes place within the walls of the city’s cathedral. Never doubt the excellent programming of these concerts and, even if the names do not mean anything to you, try your luck and go for a few minutes let yourself be carried away by the vibrant solemn tones of the organs of Notre-Dame-et-Saint- Beaver.
Who is Betty Maisonnat? Born in Thonon-les-Bains, she began organ in Geneva with Guy Bovet and followed her teaching for several years at the Romainmôtier academy. She then perfected her studies with Pierre Perdigon in Lyon, then in Grenoble, where she unanimously obtained a gold medal in her organ class at the conservatory. It was also awarded at the International Swiss organ competition in Payerne.
Betty Maisonnat is a doctor of musicology, having defended a thesis on an unpublished music manuscript from the 18th century. Also a harpsichordist, she often performs in a duet with Christian Blaes. She was the titular organist of the organ of Saint-Didier-au Mont-d’Or (Lyon) for twenty-nine years and for a few years succeeded Pierre Perdigon on the great organ of the Immaculate Conception in Lyon.
The musician also taught organ in Chamonix, as well as at the summer academy of Alès and created the academy “Orgues et cimes” of Finhaut (Valais, Switzerland) which included an organ training course and a composition competition, then the “Orgueval” academy in the Bernese Jura which offers a summer organ internship where she teaches with Yves-G. Prefontaine from Montreal.
