Pakistani nuclear program manager dies

Abdul Qadir Khan

Abdul Qadir Khan, considered the “father” of the Pakistani nuclear program, has died from the effects of the coronavirus.

Pakistani nuclear physicist, head of Pakistan’s nuclear program, Abdul Qadir Khan, has died of coronavirus. This was announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan on his Twitter page.

“Our people loved him because it was largely thanks to him that we got nuclear weapons,” wrote the head of the Pakistani government.

Abdul Qadir Khan died at the age of 86 in hospital, where he was hospitalized due to deteriorating health.

Pakistan’s secret nuclear program started in 1972. Then Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto set the country’s physicists and engineers the task of creating their own “Islamic nuclear bomb.”

In July 1976, work began in the technical research laboratories of the city of Kahut under the leadership of Abdul Qadir Khan. In May 1998, nuclear explosive devices were tested at the Chagai test site. The Pakistani army currently has up to 50 nuclear warheads at its disposal.

According to the IAEA, during the implementation of the Pakistani nuclear program, its leader created an atomic black market through which he dealt with individuals and companies from more than 30 countries.

Recall that Abdul Qadir Khan was under house arrest from 2004 to 2009. Scientist during interrogation confessed to transferring nuclear secrets Iran, North Korea, Libya and Malaysia. In June 2008, he announced that he was forced to make such confessions.
